The acharya speaks your naam and gotra, and the names of the pitrs you list, and the recording reaches you.

On the shraddh tithi of the departed, through the fifteen days of Pitru Paksha, and on Amavasya — Somvati and Mauni Amavasya in particular. Sarva-pitru Amavasya is taken when the exact tithi is not known, since it covers all the ancestors of the line.
