Meaning
Victory to Mother Lakshmi. Even Hara (Shiva), Vishnu and Brahma serve you day and night.
You are Uma, Rama and Brahmani - you alone are the mother of the whole world. The sun and moon meditate upon you, and sage Narada sings your praise.
You are the stainless form of Durga, the giver of happiness and prosperity - whoever meditates upon you attains wealth along with divine powers.
You dwell in the netherworld, and you alone are the giver of auspiciousness. You illuminate the fruits of one's karma and are the saviour who carries one across the ocean of worldly existence.
In whichever home you reside, every good quality enters it - everything becomes possible there and the mind never feels afraid.
Without you no yajna can be completed, and no one receives even clothing. All the splendour of food and drink comes from you alone.
You are the beautiful abode of auspicious virtues, born from the ocean of milk. Without your grace, no one can obtain even the fourteen sacred jewels.
Whoever sings this aarti of Maha Lakshmi feels their heart fill with bliss, and their sins are washed away.
How and When to Sing the Aarti
Light a ghee diya before an image or idol of Lakshmi Mata, ideally alongside Ganesha, offer a red flower, kumkum and a few grains of rice, and ring a bell softly while singing. At the final line, circle the diya in a clockwise motion in front of the deity, then pass your hands over the flame and touch them to your eyes and forehead.
This aarti is sung every day at the close of puja, but its significance is greatest on Fridays, throughout all five days of Diwali (especially on Lakshmi Puja night), on Sharad Purnima, and during Navratri when Lakshmi is worshipped on the specific day dedicated to her.
Benefits
Singing this aarti with devotion is believed to invite the steady, gracious presence of Lakshmi into the home - not just wealth, but the deeper prosperity of peace, health, food security and a mind free of fear. It is also sung as an expression of gratitude at the close of any auspicious ceremony, business opening, or housewarming.
