About Shri Mahakaleshwar Teerth KshetraShri Mahakaleshwar Teerth Kshetra stands in Ujjain on the banks of the Shipra, the only south-facing (dakshinmukhi) Jyotirlinga among the twelve, where Lord Shiva is worshipped as Mahakaal, the master of Kaal and death. Its pre-dawn Bhasma Aarti is among the most powerful darshan in Bharat. Through Sawan, Baba Mahakal rides out on Mondays in his royal Sawari, blessing the whole city.
How the ritual is performedThe Sawan Somvar jalabhishek is carried at the Mahakaleshwar darbar in your naam-gotra, on the first Shravan Monday muhurta, the way a Kanwariya offers Ganga jal.
Why DivyachadhavaDevotees want the sankalp carried with care, a clear ritual, a clear video, and a clear naam-gotra spoken before Mahakaal.
Sawan is the holiest month of Lord Shiva, and its first Somvar the year’s most powerful day to seek him. On this first Sawan Somvar, 3 August 2026, the Kanwariyas pour Ganga jal on the Shivling and Baba Mahakal rides out in his Sawari through Ujjain. Your naam-gotra joins the jalabhishek at Mahakaleshwar, the only south-facing Jyotirlinga, in a maha-sankalp to Bhole the Mrityunjaya.
