About Shri Mahakaleshwar Teerth KshetraShri Mahakaleshwar Teerth Kshetra at Ujjain is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas and the only one facing south, the seat of Mahakaal, the lord of kaal — time and death itself. Ujjain, ancient Avantika, is held to be the navel of the earth, the place from which time is reckoned, and each dawn opens here with the famed Bhasma-aarti, a daily new beginning. Because Mahakaal rules over time, devotees come to his feet as a new year begins to place a sankalp for the cycle of time ahead — that the new year be blessed, old troubles be left behind, and the year pass under his guard.
How the ritual is performedThe New Year shubh-aarambh sankalp is carried at Shri Mahakaleshwar Teerth Kshetra, Ujjain, in your naam-gotra, at the turn of the year, with a Rudrabhishek to Mahakaal.
Why DivyachadhavaDevotees want the sankalp carried with care, a clear ritual, a clear video, and a clear naam-gotra spoken before Mahakaal at Ujjain.
