About the Yuddha Kanda
The vanara army bridges the ocean and lays siege to Lanka. In the great war, Ravana’s brother Kumbhakarna and son Indrajit (Meghnad) fall, and at last Ram slays Ravana. Sita, proven pure through the fire, is reunited with Ram, and the victorious party returns to Ayodhya.
How it is read
The Yuddha Kanda is given below in its original Sanskrit (Devanagari), numbered by sarga and shloka. Read verse by verse; the Sundara Kanda in particular is recited as a paath for courage and protection.

Having heard Hanuman's words, spoken exactly as they had happened, Rama, filled with delight, gave his reply.
What Hanuman has accomplished is an extremely great feat, rare on this earth - something no one else could achieve even in thought.
I see no one who could cross the great ocean, other than Garuda, Vayu, or Hanuman.
The city of Lanka is unassailable, guarded well by Ravana, and belongs to gods, danavas, yakshas, gandharvas, serpents and rakshasas.
Who, having entered it while still alive, could come out again? Who could even enter that formidable city so well guarded by rakshasas?
There is no one equal to Hanuman in valor and strength; he has accomplished this great task as Sugriva's servant.
Having thus matched his own strength to the daring required for the deed - a servant appointed by his master to a difficult task,
and who carries it out with devotion is called the best of men; but one appointed to an important task who does not fulfill his king's wish
though capable and appointed, yet fails to fully accomplish the king's task with attention, is called a mediocre man.
A servant who is capable and, being appointed, truly accomplishes the task, is called the best of men - and in that very task Hanuman, being appointed, has succeeded.
Neither has he himself been diminished, nor has Sugriva failed to be gratified; and I, the line of Raghu, and mighty Lakshmana -
today, through this news of Vaidehi, have rightly been preserved by dharma. Yet this troubles my grieving mind further -
that I am unable to give Hanuman a return of affection equal to what he has shown out of love; this embrace is all that I truly have to give him.

will the monkeys, once gathered, cross to the far southern shore of this vast, hard-to-cross ocean? Even though Vaidehi's news has been told to me,"

Grief truly fades as time passes, but mine only grows day by day, for I do not see my beloved.
It does not grieve me that my beloved is far away, nor that she has been abducted; what grieves me is that her youth is passing away in this suffering.
O wind, blow from where my beloved is, and having touched her, touch me too — through you I feel her body's touch, as through the moon I meet her gaze.
That memory burns my limbs as if poison had been drunk into my body — I recall how my beloved cried out 'Alas, my lord!' as she was being carried off.
Fuelled by separation from her and blazing with the flame of anxious thought, my body burns day and night in the fire of love-grief.
O son of Sumitra, without you I shall plunge into the ocean and sleep — perhaps the burning fire of desire may somehow be quenched by me falling asleep in the water.
It would be well worth living for, this much alone — that she of the beautiful thighs and I once shared a single dwelling on this earth.
Like one dry field beside a watered field, I live only on the faint hope I draw from hearing that she is still alive.
When indeed, having conquered my enemies, shall I see Sita of the fair hips and lotus-petal eyes, radiant like flourishing prosperity itself?
When, like a sick man drinking a life-restoring elixir, shall I gently raise and drink from her lovely bimba-red lips, her face like a lotus?
When indeed will her two full, close-set breasts, like ripe palm fruits, gently trembling, embrace me as she laughs?
Surely she of the dark, lovely eyes, faithful, now in the midst of demons, feels helpless without me, her lord, unable to find a protector — like one without any lord at all.
When, having thrown the demons into turmoil and shaken them off, will she rise and fly up — she, the daughter-in-law of Dasharatha, who now lies amid demonesses?
Though the demons are hard to shake, she will yet break free and rise, like a digit of the autumn moon shaking off dark clouds.
By nature slender, Sita must now be grown even thinner through grief and fasting, because of this cruel turn of time and place.
