About Shri Bada Ganeshji Ka MandirShri Bade Ganeshji Ka Mandir stands beside the Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga at Ujjain, and the city bows here first: no darshan of Mahakaal is begun until Bade Ganesh has been greeted. He is called Bade because no Ganesha in Bharat stands taller. Guru Maharaj Pt. Narayan Vyas is said to have seen this swaroop in a dream and spent two and a half years raising it, not from stone but from brick, lime, gud and methi-dana, and into that mixture went the jal and maati of the seven moksha nagaris, Ayodhya, Mathura, Maya, Kashi, Kanchi, Ujjain and Dwarka. Seven cities of liberation stand inside this murti. Sanskrit and jyotish are still taught in its prangan, which is why Guru Purnima, the day of Ved Vyasa, belongs here.
