Introduction Gangaur is a colorful festival of Rajasthan. “Gana” is Shiva and “Gaur” is Gauri. It is observed by women for the long life of their husbands.
The Story (Vrat Katha) Once, Shiva and Parvati went on a tour. They reached a village. The poor women of the village hurried to welcome them with simple offerings of water and wild fruits. Parvati was pleased with their immediate devotion. She sprinkled “Suhaag Ras” (blessed water) on them, granting them eternal marital bliss.
Later, the women from rich families arrived with silver platters and elaborate sweets. Lord Shiva asked Parvati, “You gave all the blessings to the poor women. What will you give these rich ones?”
Parvati smiled and cut her own finger slightly. She sprinkled her own blood on the rich women. She explained, “The poor women gave their devotion first, so they got the blessing of stability. These women will also be blessed, and they will enjoy luxury with their husbands.”
Conclusion The story highlights that simple, early devotion is most precious to the Goddess, but she blesses all who come to her.
