Karkoteshwar Linga (Mahadev) and Karkotak Naag
Shri Karkoteshwar Mahadev is one of the 84 Mahadev (Chaurasi) of Ujjain per Skanda Purana / Avantikhand, located inside the Shri Harsiddhi Mata Shaktipeeth complex — Vikramaditya's kuldevi temple, one of the 51 Shakti Peethas. Per the Karkota legend, the cursed Naga king Karkotak undertook fierce tapasya at this Ujjain spot until Mahadev manifested as Karkoteshwar Linga and absolved him. Karkota Naag himself then established the linga as the Naga-protector-and-purifier shrine — the place where serpent karma is transformed (poison becomes nectar, curses turn into blessings, fear dissolves into divine grace). Devotees offer doodh abhishek, bilva, white flowers, naag pratima, and silently chant the Karkotak Bhujanga stotra. Worship is most effective on Naga Panchami and Mondays.
