Shani (Saturn) is the judge of Karma. This Aarti is not about love/romance (like Krishna) but about appeasing a strict judge. It is sung on Saturdays to reduce the malefic effects of Sade Sati (the 7.5-year Saturn cycle).

• Light a lamp with Mustard Oil (Sarson ka tel), not Ghee. • Add a few black sesame seeds (Kale Til) to the lamp. • Offer blue flowers (Aparajita). • Perform the Aarti to the side of the idol, or look at the idol’s feet.
