Introduction Tuesday is the day of Hanuman Ji. This fast is observed by those seeking strength, courage, and protection from evil. It is also observed by couples wishing for a son. Devotees eat food made of wheat and jaggery (no salt) once a day.
The Story (Vrat Katha) An old couple was a great devotee of Lord Hanuman. They had no children. The woman would fast every Tuesday. Once, her husband went to another city for work.
One Tuesday, the woman could not cook the offering (Bhog) for Hanuman Ji because she was ill. She vowed not to eat until she could offer Bhog the next Tuesday. She fasted for a whole week. Fainting with hunger, she prayed. Hanuman Ji, pleased by her dedication, appeared and blessed her with a beautiful son named “Mangal.”
When the husband returned, he was suspicious. “Who is this child?” he asked. The wife explained, but he didn’t believe her; he thought she had been unfaithful. One day, the husband took the boy to a well and pushed him in.
He returned home, and the wife asked, “Where is Mangal?” Just then, Mangal came running into the room, smiling and dry. The husband was shocked. That night, Hanuman Ji appeared in the husband’s dream and told him the truth.
Conclusion The husband realized his mistake and the power of the Vrat. The couple lived happily with their son. Observing this fast resolves family disputes and protects children.
