Shri Ramanathaswamy Jyotirlinga at Rameshwaram is the only temple in India that is simultaneously one of the four Char Dhams AND one of the 12 Jyotirlingas. Per Ramayana, before crossing the ocean to Lanka, Lord Rama installed a Shivalinga of sand at this spot and worshipped Mahadev to absolve the Brahma-hatya dosha he would incur by killing Ravana. Hanuman flew to Kailash to bring a Shivalinga; while he was away, Sita installed a sand-linga (the Ramanathaswamy linga); Hanuman's Kailash-linga (the Vishwanathaswamy linga) was placed beside it. Both stand in the temple sanctum to this day. The temple's 1000-pillar corridor is the longest temple corridor in the world.
The order stays clear: naam-gotra first, Setu Snan-sankalp at Agni Theertham + 22-theertham snan, Sahasra-Dhara panchamrit abhishek over the Jyotirlinga with 11-fold Rudri Sukta paath, and a closing Madhu arpan. Proof shared after completion.
When a devotee feels they've called every other deity and now needs the Char Dham + Jyotirlinga combined weight specifically, they want the prayer carried with care and the completion shared honestly.
On 31 May Ravivar — Adhika Jyeshtha Shukla Purnima (closing day of Purushottam Maas) with Anuradha nakshatra and Siddha yog — the Sahasra-Dhara Panchamrit Maha Abhishek is performed in your naam-gotra at Shri Ramanathaswamy Jyotirlinga, Rameshwaram. The Sahasra-Dhara is the classic Rudri-tradition ritual where a brass-copper vessel pierced with 1000 small holes creates a continuous flowing rain of panchamrit (milk + curd + ghee + honey + sugar) over the linga while the Rudri Sukta is recited 11 times. The Setu Snan-sankalp at Agni Theertham + 22-theertham snan precedes the abhishek. Per Ramayana, Lord Rama installed this very Shivalinga to absolve the Brahma-hatya dosha he would incur from killing Ravana — making the shrine the only Char Dham + Jyotirlinga combined site, shastrically positioned for closing-of-Adhika-Maas paap-vimochan and karz-rin shuddhi. Adhika Purnima of Jyeshtha will not return until 2029.
